what's in season?
with jon chen and michael khong

the objective of the project was to design an e-zine that targets a specific user community as a resource for finding focused information about the chosen topic, which in our case was FRUITS. in order to determine the demands of our users we developed user scenarios, including an avid fruit shopper, a culinary student, and a healthy cooking enthusiast.

after identifying the needs of our users, including ideal seasons for each fruit and exotic fruit information, we focused on information architecture, navigation, and visual design. first, we organized all the information in a content inventory to systematically organize each page. secondly, we produced low-fidelity wireframes to iterate on the visual design and navigation flow of each page. we finally consolidated all these scaffolding resources to create the final form of our e-zine.

with “what’s in season?” we provide a wealth of user-relevant fruit information without clutter but through semantic categories and pages that allow easy and quick navigation. not only was our focus on clean information architecture but also beautiful overall aesthetics. from typeface to photograph selection, every minutiae was collaboratively discussed.
